Dave Dobbyn — Dreams Lie Deeper

Commissioned by TVNZ in conjunction with NZ ON Air, Dreams Lie Deeper is the story of New Zealand musical icon Dave Dobbyn as he embarks on a very personal journey to create a new song in memory of the miners of Pike River.

Winning silver at the New Zealand Cinematographers Awards in 2016, Dreams Lie Deeper follows Dave as he travels to meet the miner's families on the West Coast and hear their stories before performing his new composition “This Love” to an emotional audience at Wellington's Michael Fowler Centre.  

Billed as Special Event programming, this primetime documentary was filmed over four months culminating in a live multi-cam shoot using a variety of innovative camera set-ups to capture the unique performance.
