The Secret World of Butterflies
Visitors were invited to take an amazing journey into the Secret World of Butterflies (pūrerehua), in a digital first for the Auckland Museum. Satellite, in partnership with the Museum team, designed and created an immersive display app that allowed the public to swipe and zoom around a large screen projection of the majestic Monarch Butterfly.
Monarch under the microscope
Utilizing stunningly intimate images (taken from the extensive Shannon Butterfly collection), this free exhibition (located in the Sainsbury Horrocks Gallery) is a fantastic way for nature lovers to explore this fascinating species.
Intended as a fun and rewarding learning resource for school kids, families and young explorers, users initiate their butterfly journey by touching the big-screen monitor and swiping to focus in on the butterfly part that piques their interest. They’re then presented with relevant anatomy facts detailing the science of this butterfly. Six different parts of the butterfly can be selected to explore, zoom in on and read about.
Working with the Museum
Satellite are privileged to be part of this vibrant and engaging digital exhibition, showcasing one of nature’s most delicate species in a family friendly way. And we’re excited to continue this rewarding relationship with the Auckland Museum.
Creating innovative, ground-breaking user experiences for their visitors — now, tomorrow and for the future.
